A POPULAR doughnut maker is back in a Burton shopping centre for the first time since the start of the pandemic and will be heaven for those who love a sweet treat.

Project D is inviting Christmas shoppers to pay it a visit to get their hands on one of its hand-decorated colourful creations, as they reopened in Coopers Square shopping centre this week.

It is the first time Project D has returned to the shopping centre since it was forced to shut due to the Government’s coronavirus lockdown measures in March 2020.

However, those wanting to get grab the sweet snack are urged to be quick as they will only be in Burton town centre until Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24.

But if the pop-up shop proves to be popular, bosses at Project D have said they hoped to find a more permanent unit in the town during 2022, where they plan to sell coffee and an even larger range of doughnuts. Its doughnuts are known for being large and include Biscoffinspired ones.

Operations director Max Poynton said: “We have always said that we would be back in Burton when the time was right and when the chance to come back into Coopers Square came up, albeit only temporarily, we couldn’t resist.

“Burton has always felt like our second home – it’s the first place we opened outside of Derby, and we were made to feel very welcome, so we’re hoping for the same reception this time.

“We have some absolutely gorgeous doughnuts available this Christmas which we think will knock shoppers’ socks off. But, at the moment, our return is only limited, so catch us while you can.”

Project D initially opened in Coopers Square in the run-up to Christmas 2019 but subsequent lockdowns meant the company had to change its business model entirely, selling at pop-up locations and launching a home delivery service, which has since expanded across the UK.

Now the company is back in Burton with Christmas treats including Frosty the Doughman, with its snowy vanilla icing and orange cream nose, and Mr Claus – a white chocolate doughnut, dipped in milk chocolate and decorated with festive sprinkles.

Project D was launched in 2018 by childhood friends Max Poynton, Matthew Bond and Jacob Watts.
