MP pleased with progress made as she wishes readers a happy Xmas

-

BURTON MP Kate Griffiths has said she is “proud of the progress we have made” this year in her work delivering residents’ priorities for the area.

It forms a key part of her Christmas message to Burton Mail readers, in which she also talks about her campaign to bring enhancements to the A38.

Here is her Christmas message in full: “Recently I surpassed two years at the Member of Parliament for Burton and Uttoxeter. This has been a time of great change and challenge both for our country and for me personally. I want to thank again all those who have sent in emails and messages of support recently. These have been incredibly encouraging to me and have strengthened the commitment I gave when I first stood for election to be a voice for those who have been victims of domestic abuse.

“Alongside this, I continue to work hard on delivering on residents’ priorities for our area and I am proud of the progress we have made. At the General Election in 2019, I pledged to campaign to level up our two town centres with new investment and high street improvements. “With the £22.8 million Town Deal for Burton we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to revitalise our town centre and enhance the natural jewel in crown, the Washlands. In 2022, I will continue to work with local councillors and the Town Deal Board to ensure that residents are fully included in the process, and can be proud of the investments made for them in our town centre.

“We also continue to see Staffordshire Police officer numbers grow and further investment in our local schools and hospitals, including winter preparedness funding and additional parking spaces at Queen’s.

“Enhancements to the A38 is also something I have been campaigning for, alongside neighbouring Members of Parliament, to improve residents’ commute. Recently, money was awarded to Staffordshire County Council to part-fund the production of a business case to examine possible improvements between the junction and the Branston junction of the A38. Next year, my parliamentary colleagues and local councillors will continue to make the case for improvements to this critical road.

“I know many of us are looking forward to a more normal Christmas compared to the events of 2020. However, we must continue to be cautious and follow the latest public health guidance with the emergence of the omicron variant of coronavirus. If you have not already done so, get boosted now and continue to regularly take lateral flow tests, particularly when meeting up with others.

“Last but by no means least, may I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
