Joinery business plans new showroom and office to meet rising demand

-

A JOINERY has revealed plans to build a showroom in a Derbyshire town.

Clive Toon Joinery, in Melbourne, wants to construct the showroom and office on a piece of land just off Station Road as part of its plans to expand and grow to meet customer demand.

The one-storey building would be constructed near to the entrance to

Station Yard, where the business is located, and next to an electricity substation.

A planning statement submitted by JMI Planning on behalf of the applicant, says a showroom is needed as previously approved expansion plans do not have room for it.

It said: “The applicant operates Clive Toon Joinery and has recently gained permission to further extend the existing premises as well as permission for a new storage building to help facilitate the growing demands of the business.

“There is no space in either of the existing buildings or the new buildings for a showroom and currently finished products are showcased outside, or within the workshop building when space allows. This arrangement is not ideal for health and safety and practicality reasons.

“The applicant is seeking permission to erect a building to be used as a designated showroom on land to the north of Station Yard which is just a short walk from the commercial buildings and is therefore ideally suited to provide a showroom for clients.

“Locating the showroom here removes the need for clients to come into the commercial yard or the workshop area.”

The showroom would also contain a separate office, lobby, kitchen and toilets. According to the applicant, the building would have associated parking for three vehicles and would be open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
