Police smash their way into house after reports of illegal activity

-

OCCUPANTS of a South Derbyshire house got an early awakening as police smashed their way in during a raid.

Officers carried out the drugs raid at a house in Chestnut Avenue, Midway, after officers were informed by members of the community there was possible illegal activity taking place there.

Officers from the Swadlincote Police Safer Neighbourhood Team and response officers carried out the early morning raid and arrested both of the people found inside, said a spokesman.

A device police call “a big red key” was used to smash down the door to get into the property and officers found what was thought to be a “substantial amount of Class A and B drugs” which were recovered along with alleged stolen property.

Vehicles were also recovered by the officers.

Both occupants at the address were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and possession of criminal property, a spokesman for the unit, which is an arm of Derbyshire police, said.

Sergeant Tarj Nizzer, of the safer neighbourhood team, said “We will act on intelligence and information received from our communities. This is evidenced in this successful warrant. Expect some more early morning ‘big red key’ door knocks from your safer neighbourhood team.”

Anyone with any information regarding criminal activity in South Derbyshire or “anyone living beyond their means” is urged to contact Derbyshire police through its social media channels, completing the online contact form at www. derbyshire.police.uk/contactus or by calling the force on 101.
