Where Covid cases are rising the fastest

FIVE postcodes in East Staffordsh­ire and South Derbyshire have a Covid rate of more than 1,000 for every 100,000 people, the latest figures have revealed.

Public Health England has released the latest figures for the seven days to December 22 for each postcode across the two areas – the figures for the individual areas over Christmas are not available yet.

In East Staffordsh­ire, Mayfield, Rocester and Bramshall has the highest rate of 1,143.6 per every 100,000 people, with a figure of 88 cases. This is a rise of 131.6 per cent on the previous seven days.

In South Derbyshire, Willington South and Repton; Hilton and Etwall; Melbourne, Ticknall and Hartshorne; and Castle Gresley, Overseal and Coton all have a rate of more than 1,000.

The figures have been released as Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged families to “continue to act cautiously” after confirming there will be no new coronaviru­s restrictio­ns in England this side of the new year.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said there would be no more restrictio­ns in England despite there being more than 320,000 new coronaviru­s cases over Christmas.

These are the latest figures for the postcodes in East Staffordsh­ire and South Derbyshire where Covid is rising to December 22.

The data is organised in the following format – Number of infections (infection rate per 100,000 people); Change compared to the previous week (percentage change).

EAST STAFFORDSH­IRE

Mayfield, Rocester and Bramshall: 88 cases (rate of 1,143.6); up 50 (131.6 per cent)

Rolleston on Dove and Tutbury: 96 cases (rate of 979.8); up 31 (47.7 per cent)

Branston: 80 cases (rate of 979.7); up 23 (40.4 per cent)

Uttoxeter Town: 61 cases (rate of 873.8); up 28 (84.8 per cent)

Burton Stretton: 61 cases (rate of 807.9); up one (1.7 per cent)

Uttoxeter Heath: 52 cases (rate of 777.6); up 24 (85.7 per cent)

Burton Winshill: 60 cases (rate of 699); up 26 (76.5 per cent)

Burton Horninglow: 63 cases (rate of 686.5); up 13 (26 per cent)

Burton Stapenhill: 54 cases (rate 680.3); up nine ( 20 per cent)

Abbots Bromley, Yoxall and Marchingto­n: 57 cases (rate of 659); up 57 (90 per cent)

Barton under Needwood: 35 cases (rate of 587.6); up one (2.9 per cent)

SOUTH DERBYSHIRE

Willington South and Repton: 89 cases (rate of 1,242); up 53 (147.2 per cent)

Hilton and Etwall: 146 cases (rate of 1,202); up 75 (105.6 per cent)

Melbourne, Ticknall and Hartshorne: 78 cases (rate of 1,135.7); up 38 (95 per cent)

Castle Gresley, Overseal and Coton: 123 cases (rate of 1,052.7); up 57 (86.4 per cent)

Willington North, Findern and Stenson Fields: 93 cases (rate of 883.9); up nine (10.7 per cent)

Swadlincot­e South: 97 cases (rate of 873.6); up 55 (131 per cent)
