Crime commissioner seeks your views on police budget
DERBYSHIRE’S police and crime commissioner Angelique Foster is asking residents for their views ahead of setting the budget for Derbyshire policing for 2022/23.
The commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan, published last month, focuses on priorities for policing and community safety which were based on feedback from the residents of Derbyshire
Residents have been consistently clear that they want to see:
■■More police officers ■■Improved road safety
■■A reduction in burglary and ASB
■■Easier ways to contact the police
■■A more robust response to rural crime
The commissioner says she expects Derbyshire Constabulary and partners to deliver on these priorities to boost public safety in Derby and Derbyshire, delivering strong local policing across the whole force area.
The Commissioner, currently considering the budget for the coming year (2022-23), is asking local people for their views on the police precept – the portion of the council tax that helps to fund policing locally – via a dedicated survey.
Ms Foster said: “It’s important that Derbyshire Constabulary meets the needs and expectations of residents. Like them, I want to see strong local policing in all neighbourhoods, including rural areas, which is why I am seeking local residents’ views on the resources available to deliver this.
“It is vital that the force has the funding and resources it needs to deliver the improvements I have set out for the next three years. It is also important that taxpayers’ money is spent wisely and in line with the priorities that matter the most to local people.
“At a time of rising costs for forces and competing demands, it is critical any budget not only protects performance but offers us an opportunity to build on our success and deliver the services local people expect and deserve.
“My Police and Crime Plan provides a clear direction to the Chief Constable to deliver on those priorities, improving community safety and increasing police visibility. Investing in our local force means that the problems and issues that matter most to our communities can be dealt with robustly and swiftly with more criminals brought to justice.”
