Joy as missing dog Izzy is found after three nights in cold
FAMILY FRIEND FOUND THE DEAF TERRIER IN A DITCH
A BELOVED deaf dog who sparked a large search operation after going missing has been found in a ditch.
Izzy, the deaf border terrier cross, went missing from her home in Tutbury on Saturday, January 8, when she got out through a gate which had been left open, to the anguish of her owner, Sally Ann Smith.
The distraught family launched a large search for Izzy, including the use of a drone fitted with a thermal camera in a bid to find her. But miraculously, Sally got a call from a family friend whose son’s dog stumbled across poor Izzy in a ditch while being taking a walk on Tuesday.
Mum Sally, 55, who runs Roundpeg Outdoor Buildings in Yoxall, said: “After the thermal drone couldn’t find her we were getting hopeless. Then earlier this afternoon, I got a phone call from my friend Sue. She said her son had been out for a walk in the field just outside the village when their dog, Desmond, just stood next to this ditch with his nose up.
“The dogs don’t know each other but Desmond apparently just would not move from his spot. On further investigation, he found Izzy in the ditch.
“It was amazing, we’ve been in tears all afternoon now that she is back with
us.”
Izzy had spent three nights on her own in the fields surrounding the village in the cold temperatures. When she was found she was shaken but ultimately okay, said an elated Sally. She added: “She was amazing. Izzy spent three nights in the cold on her own which, for a dog of her age is pretty amazing.
“She was a little dehydrated and very hungry but we’ve taken her to the vets this afternoon and she looks to be all okay.
“Honestly, I’m so happy. We’re all very tired but very relieved. She’s been sat on my lap all afternoon.”
It was amazing, we’ve been in tears all afternoon now that she is back with us.
