EFL demand to know season funding detail
THE Football League have responded to the latest twist in the Derby County takeover saga.
The Rams have been in administration for almost four months and the search for new owners is ongoing.
News emerged on Thursday night that Derby’s administrators have been requested by the EFL to provide proof of funds that the club can complete the season without a takeover.
Without that proof, Derby are not allowed to extend contracts or sign players.
This has put manager Wayne Rooney’s transfer plans for the
January window on hold.
The EFL put out a statement on the matter, saying:
“Following its board meeting on Thursday 13 January, the EFL has written to the administrators reiterating that it needs confirmation as a matter of urgency of how they intend to trade whilst Derby County remains in administration, including a funding plan that will enable the club to fulfil its fixture obligations until the end of the current season.
“Without this visibility the League is unable to approve any player signings or renew existing registrations and this position had been communicated to the club prior to yesterday’s meeting.”
Derby County fan groups have released statements following the latest developments surrounding the club.
Ramstrust called for more clarity from the administrators.
“Like all Derby County supporters we are shocked and dismayed by today’s revelations about our football club and the departure of a player who has been at the heart of out defiant performances this season,” they said in a statement.
“We have contacted the administrators directly, calling for a full, frank and immediate update on the status of the club and any proposed takeover.
“The time for supporters to be kept in the dark is over, especially with what seems like a dire threat to the very existence of Derby County FC.”
Black and White Together supporters group also released a statement, which read: “BAWT is concerned with the messages emerging regarding the current situation.
“We have contacted the administrators for clarification and are attempting to check stories any way we can.”
