Three places to eat are nominated for the Food Awards England 2022

-

A TOP Burton restaurant has been named among the best in the West Midlands.

Pascal at The Old Vicarage has been nominated for the Best Fine Dining Restaurant Award in the Food Awards England 2022.

It is one of nine eateries up for the prize.

Two other places to eat in the area have also been named in other categories of the awards – Lakeside Bistro in Swadlincote and 50s American Diner in Church Gresley.

Not only does Pascal rank highly with the critics, but it is a people’s favourite, coming in second on Tripadvisor, as of May 10, 2022. Only The Mulberry Fine Dining, in Lichfield Street, comes higher.

Specialising in British and French cuisine, you may think it costs an arm and a leg to dine there. But most visitors to the eatery in Main Street, Branston, are pleasantly surprised by its prices. The threecourse Menu du Jour comes in at less than £30.

Lakeside Bistro in Swadlincote is up for the Cafe/bistro of the Year gong after being nominated in the top six for the East Midlands.

Church Gresley’s 50s American Diner, meanwhile, will battle it out with five other establishments for the Midlands-wide Best World Cuisine accolade. Both eateries have been popular with diners from the town and beyond for many years.

The bistro, based at the

Shortheath Water attraction in Shortheath Road, Moira, specialises in breakfast and lunch. Set in the heart of the National Forest, it is surrounded by lush countryside and holiday lodges.

Describing its services, a spokesman for the venue said: “Lakeside Bistro is a family-run business and serves breakfasts, morning coffee, a relaxing lunch and afternoon teas in a quiet beautiful setting overlooking the lake. Homemade pies and puddings are a speciality and a vintage tea is highly recommended.”

The diner, in John Street, won the Best World Cuisine back in 2017 – and is hoping to repeat the feat this year. The themed diner, whose staff dress up to look the part, specialises in milkshakes, burgers, sundaes, pizzas and more.

The establishments will find out if they have won at a lavish ceremony in Manchester in June.

Other establishments in the wider area which have been nominated include The Apiary at Castle Donington for East Midlands Restaurant of the Year, the Tap House Bar & Restaurant in Ashby for Midlands Hotel Restaurant of the Year, and Derby’s Project D is up for a national award for Artisan Bakery of the Year.
