County’s big show is back again

- By GEORGE BUNN george.bunn@reachplc.com

THE Staffordshire County Show, one of the biggest and most important events on the Staffordshire calendar, is back again this year.

The show, which takes place at the Staffordshire County Showground in Stafford, is expected to attract more than 65,000 visitors over the two dates on Wednesday and Thursday, June 1 and June 2, which is a bank holiday this year.

It is the first time the event is back during its traditional time of June, as organisers had to move last year’s show to August due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking centre stage will be the show’s main ring, with events over both days including a monster trucks display, show jumping, a parade of hounds, and the grand parade of livestock.

In the County Pursuits area there will be arena displays of falconry, The Quack Pack, which is a sheepdog and duck display, and the ferret roadshow, as well as horseshoeing competitions and a climbing wall.

For foodies, the Prestwood Hall will be hosting the annual food fair. This food market will accommodate more than 50 trade stands selling or promoting fresh or packaged foods. There will also be an antiques fair, as well as arts and craft stalls for children to get involved in.

The venue’s narrow-gauge steam railway, donkey rides and traditional Punch and Judy shows will run for young children. In addition to this, the dog show is expected to attract around 2,000 pets, representing every breed of dog in the UK.

Live music will be provided from the Wabash Jazzmen and the Lea Hall Brass Band in the Bandstand.

There will also be sheep shearing and a wool handling competition and demonstration in Bingley Hall.

Early bird tickets are currently on sale for members of the public and can be purchased either online or from the showground’s ticket office. After midnight on May 28, the fullprice tickets are on sale.

Full price tickets can be purchased by card or cash at the gates of the show on the day. However, organisers are recommending purchasing in advance to avoid queueing.

Early bird tickets cost £14 per adult and £4 for children.

Full ticket prices are £18 for adults and £5 for children.
