A special flyover is a great photo opportunity

-

A PIECE of military history took to the skies of East Staffordshire at the weekend as part of a photography workshop.

The Lancaster bomber had people once again looking up as it flew over Abbots Bromley three times.

The flypast was part of an American history photography workshop at High Ash Farm, with the Lancaster bomber flypast only part of the day which included reenactments from the American Civil War society.

The aircraft was flown by Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Bomber pilot Flight Lieutenant Paul Wise for the event.

Organiser Lee Chapman, of Chappers Photography, said: “I’m really pleased with everything and the weather’s perfect. We’ve got 26 photographers which is the best we’ve ever had.

“A lot of people who are not part of the event could see the flypast as well.”

The event covered various different periods of history, from the American War of Independence to the Second World War and as recent as the Vietnam War, and there was even a display of horse riding skills and tricks.

Different characters could be seen across the site ready for budding photographers to take the perfect picture.

Martyn Clarke, who is part of the American Civil War Society UK, explained that he was playing the part of the southern troop from the State of South Carolina. These men went to war with no domestic skills such as cooking to feed themselves or even sowing on a button so they had to learn everything from scratch.

Yogi Kauffman, of Spearfish Creek, was playing the part of a settler. He said: “It’s been really good. It’s strange doing living history for photographers as we normally do a multi-period show where we shoot each other, which can be quite entertaining.”

Spearfish Creek is a town in America that was part of the gold rush in the 1800s.
