Anti-social young people are spoiling town park, says dad

A DAD says intimidating young people are spoiling a Burton park by climbing on top of a changing room were they sit drinking alcohol and shouting.

He walks through Eton Road Community Park with his daughter and says they are spoiling the place.

Adam Bobrowski, who lives in the town, said he also saw a "dangerous"' open manhole and fears someone could be injured if they fall in it, especially a child. He spotted the drain with its cover removed and placed to the side, before being shocked at seeing youths on the changing room roof drinking and shouting.

Adam said: "I was walking my daughter and there must have been a hundred people around the site of the park. There's all these young people and they're always shouting and drinking. I thought that the manhole cover was very dangerous. Some child could fall into the pit and do something bad [ to themselves]. I think people need to be aware of what's happening.

"I only see what I can see and it is hard to look at. I saw what I saw from the park. It was dangerous."

He called for things to be improved and would like to see the drain mended and something done about the drinking. He also said the changing rooms looked run down and he would like to see the building improved.

He said: "I hear about people drinking there. It's in such a beautiful area of the park. Maybe find the owner of the building and let him do something about it?"

A spokesperson for East Staffordshire Borough Council, which is responsible for the park, said: "The council is working with its leisure operator, Everyone Active, on improving the changing facility located at Eton Park. Options are being investigated for repairs to the exterior of the facility and to ensure it can remain secure from the risk of future vandalism.

"We undertake regular checks of our parks and open spaces, but if residents discover a hazard, we'd encourage them to report the details directly to us to ensure we can take appropriate steps to make the area safe as quickly as possible.”
