Burglary victim is more upset by police response

‘VULNERABLE’ MAN HAD SAVED FOR HIS BIKES

A BURTON man has been left “absolutely disgusted” by the police’s response after criminals broke into his home and stole goods worth more than £1,000.

A large LG TV, two new Carrera mountain bikes and an ipad were among the items stolen from Scott Ormerod’s house.

The 56-year-old – who lives with partner Kieran, 25, in Shakespeare Road – said the police had still not visited him days after the burglary.

He said: “The police haven’t even turned up yet.

“They’ve contacted me three times saying they’re busy and have to prioritise things. It’s a load of rubbish.

“All they seem to do is generate money out of people from parking tickets. I’m absolutely disgusted with them and feel like I’m being too much of a bother for them.

“I said to them they’re paid for out of public money, but the public don’t get a service. “I’m having to deal with this myself and I’ve told the police I’ve a rough idea who’s done this by the nature in which it was done. “I find it very hard to believe they’ve got two bikes with 27.5in wheels out of my bathroom window, as well as a smart TV and ipad.

“I was lured away from my house for 40 minutes, so that’s how I think I’ve got a good idea who’s done it and how.”

Mr Ormerod’s bikes are reportedly the second and third bikes stolen from the area in the last two months, the other said to have been taken from his friend’s driveway. He and his partner are now left without a TV.

Unemplyed Mr Ormerod is offering a £200 reward for reliable information about the whereabouts of the bikes.

He said: “Being on benefits, we’ve saved up a long time to get the bikes and I’m still willing to give someone £200 for any information about them. I wish I could be more generous, but that’s all I have to offer.

“In all honesty, I’m more disgusted with the response from the police than the people who’ve stolen the bikes. As a gay man, I’m vulnerable and I feel I’ve not been protected or looked after well enough.”

A spokesperson from Staffordshire Police said: “Police were called just before 2am on Wednesday, May 18, to a report of a burglary at an address on Shakespeare Road in Burton. We prioritise every call and subsequent response and investigation based on the nature of the threat, the harm caused, the risk of further crimes being committed, and opportunities to identify the suspect.

“During times of high demand, there may be occasions where our response is delayed. Neighbourhood officers will be in touch with the resident to discuss the incident.”

The burglary happened between 1am and 2am on Wednesday, May 18.
