A fabulous feast that’s fit for a Queen
To celebrate Her Majesty’s 70-year reign, This Morning chef and professional baker Juliet Sear has whipped up a special Jubilee menu. SARAH ROBERTSON finds out more
JULIET SEAR fell into baking cakes by accident when making them for her children’s birthday parties. Self-taught, she has gone on to create sweet treats for the likes of Prince Harry, Kate Moss and Holly Willoughby.
And now the This Morning baker has put together some brilliant bakes to help celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this weekend.
Juliet, 48, reveals that Harry shares a love of chocolate with his grandmother.
“Prince Harry’s 30th birthday was at his Invictus Games and inspired by its logo I made him a Belgium chocolate truffle torte.
“Apparently he said it was the best chocolate cake he’d ever had. I don’t know whether people tell me this to be nice.
“A love of chocolate runs in the Royal Family,” she adds. “The Queen loves chocolate biscuit cake, that is her favourite. Chocolate is her favourite food, and Prince William loves it and had it for his groom’s cake.”
As for This Morning host Holly, Juliet shares: “She absolutely loves buttercream, so whenever I’m on doing something with buttercream she’s always like, ‘Juliet, have you got the buttercream over there?’.
“And she comes over and picks up the piping bag and squeezes it into her mouth!
“I’m like, “Where do you put it? You look fantastic.’ But I doubt she does that every day. If I went on daily it might be a problem. Her favourite is a classic birthday cake with sprinkles and vanilla buttercream, and she loves rainbows.”
Holly’s co-presenter Philip Schofield does not share Holly’s passion for cakes, however.
“Phil doesn’t like a fuss on his birthday and has not got a sweet tooth,” says Juliet. “But he does
like a Dime Bar, so if I do one it is a Dime Bar-inspired flavour.”
As for supermodel Kate, Juliet says she opts for a less is more approach with cakes.
“I made her 40th birthday party cake for her house in the Cotswolds. It was an understated semi-naked cake of just two or three tiers with plain buttercream and accessorised with fresh flowers.”
Here are some great recipes to try if you are hosting your own Jubilee party this weekend.
