Wedding shop bosses vowing to create the perfect big day

A MUM who dreamed of having the perfect wedding as a child has opened her own bridal shop near Burton.

Lucy Cope has launched the business in Needwood with her mother-in-law and business partner, Susan Cope.

The pair say they are thrilled to be opening Veil and Vow Bridal Studio and now want to make those childhood dreams come true for all brides from the town. Their shop is at St George’s Business Park, in Newborough Road, just next to the fuel station.

Part of the special treatment for brides is having the entire shop to themselves along with family and friends when they try on and choose their wedding attire. Customers need to make an appointment, so choosing their outfits is a personal experience and all part of the build-up to the big day.

In total there are 43 dresses to view and try on, although for the opening week only there have been more. Lucy and Susan have worked in the property business together for the past 13 years and share the same values, they said.

Lucy, 28, says she has always wanted to open her own bridal store after creating scrapbooks of her dream wedding as a child with her cousin. Her own wedding to husband James was the push she needed to make the dream of opening a wedding shop a reality, she said.

She said: “I loved it. I did textiles at GCSE and I made dresses. It’s always been something that I’ve absolutely loved.”

Susan, who shared her interest in all things bridal, said: “It’s just something we’ve always been interested in doing. Lucy has just been on maternity leave, so now is the time to do it. We’ve had some time on our hands and then Covid came and showed us that life can be very short. We decided to invest in ourselves.”

The women want to make it all about the experience, and say finding the perfect dress and the location is a big part of that. Driving down the country lanes to their shop means that brides can avoid busy town centres, the stress of parking and then finding the shop.

Here they can park up right outside the door, even charge the car if it is electric and arrive relaxed and ready to shop, they said. Susan said: “It’s by appointment only as we are big on customer experience. We want to make it enjoyable with dedicated time to

the bride and her entourage.

“We’ve got a variety of dresses, playsuits and ones with shorts sewn in – whatever they feel most comfortable in.”

Lucy added: “One of my best friends is getting married and we went to a few places to try on dresses in city centres. We went to one in Manchester and got stuck in traffic and then we couldn’t park. When we got there there was not as much stuff as we expected.

“This is such a nice scenic journey from every direction and there are a lot of nice wedding venues nearby. The light is also really good and it’s not overcrowded. You can park right outside.”

Brides can also bring their own playlist of songs to make it more personal and there are other wedding accessories on offer such as veils, tiaras, headbands and even belts. The dress designers they sell include Hayley Paige, Ronald Joyce and Madison James.

Dresses include some with plenty of bling, others with a slit leg, short and long sleeves and some even have pockets. Others also have detachable overskirts so they can be changed from the day to evening do in one simple move.

Susan added: “The designers in the industry have been so welcoming. They have been amazing to us and so supportive.”

Appointments can be made by emailing lucy@veilandvow.co.uk, calling 07527 292363 or by visiting veilandvow.co.uk.
