Police appeal for witnesses to crash after woman dies in A50 accident

-

A TRAGIC crash on the A50 resulted in a woman’s death after her car left the dual carriageway.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after her car hit a tree.

The white Ford Fusion left the eastbound side of the carriageway at around 4.40am on Monday, June 14, in Derbyshire. The road was closed for hours while officers investigated.

There were early-morning queues stretching to the Swadlincote and Melbourne turn-offs as a result. The woman’s family have been informed of her death.

Police attended the scene near Shardlow in the early hours of Monday. Now officers are appealing for witnesses.

They are especially keen to see dashcam footage from any passing motorists – especially if it captures the woman’s car.

The incident caused significant disruption throughout the morning as traffic queued from J2 of the A6 near Alvaston to J1 of the B6540 near Tamworth Road, Long Eaton. Congestion also stretched to Swadlincote and Melbourne, affecting commuters on the M1 at J24A for Nottingham South and East Midlands Airport.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “We are appealing for dashcam footage after a woman died in a collision on the A50 yesterday. We were called at 4.40am on Monday (June 13) to a report that a white Ford Fusion had left the road and collided with a tree just off the

A50 eastbound carriageway near Shardlow. Emergency services attended and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The affected stretch of road was closed for several hours yesterday whilst collision investigation work was carried out. The family of the woman have been made aware and our thoughts go out to them at this sad time.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who was driving on this stretch of the A50 around the time of the collision, particularly anyone with dashcam installed which may have captured the incident.

“If you have footage that may be useful for officers, please ensure it is securely downloaded to another device and kept safely for them to view.
