Cup draws to be made same day as fixtures released

BURTON Albion will find out their opponents in the Carabao Cup and Papa John’s Trophy next Thursday.

As part of the EFL’S fixture release day, the first round draws for the Carabao Cup and Papa John’s Trophy Group Stage will take place live on Sky Sports News.

The draws will follow the release of fixture lists across the Sky Bet Championsh­ip, League One and League Two, which will also be revealed on Sky Sports at 9am on June 23 – with the 2022-23 Sky Bet EFL Season beginning the weekend commencing Friday, July 29.

Sky Sports will then broadcast the Papa John’s Trophy Group Stage draw at 11.30am and will include last season’s runners-up Sutton United, who agonisingl­y lost out to Rotherham United in extratime of the 2022 final at Wembley Stadium in April.

The 16 invited Under-21 teams will be placed into their respective Northern and Southern section Groups, with the 48 EFL Clubs placed into pre-determined Groups prior to the draw.

Considerat­ion has been given to ensure travel time is minimised and recovery time is maximised for players.

All EFL Clubs will play two of their three matches at home in the Group Stages, with the opening ties to take place the week commencing August 29.

The Carabao Cup first round draw will then take place live on Sky Sports News at 2.30pm next Thursday.

A total of 35 ties will be drawn, which will include Stockport County and Grimsby Town who are returning to the EFL after achieving promotion from the National League.

Burnley, Watford and the Premier League Clubs that are not competing in Europe will join the competitio­n in the second round.

Holders Liverpool, who overcame Chelsea in last season’s final at

Wembley Stadium, will join in the third round along with the other Premier League teams competing in Europe next season.

Carabao Cup first round fixtures will take place the week commencing August 8.

Meanwhile, the Brewers have announced tickets will go on sale for their home pre-season friendlies against Birmingham City (July 16) and Sheffield United (July 22) on Tuesday, June 21 from 11am.

Seated season ticket holders will need to have renewed for 2022-23 by noon tomorrow in order to claim their regular seat for these fixtures. They need to be claimed by 5pm on Tuesday, June 28, or they will go on general sale.

Terrace tickets will cost £10 (adults) and £5 (Under-17s), while seats will cost £15 (adults), £10 (U17s) and £22 (existing vice presidents).
