Firm hands out £500 for garden event

-

A FUNDRAISING event showcasing picture-perfect gardens in Fradley will take place next weekend, with the help of a local housebuilder.

Fradley Open Gardens is back for 2022 following a two-year break due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bellway, which is building at the Sheasby Park development in the village, has donated £500 towards the cost of putting on this year’s show.

The event, which is being held on Saturday and Sunday, June 25 and 26, will see 14 beautiful private gardens in Fradley opened up for members of the public to admire.

Live music, Morris dancers and other entertainment will also be taking place at various locations throughout the weekend, with all proceeds from the event going towards St Stephen’s Church and other local community projects.

Sandy Carruthers, one of the co-organisers of Fradley Open Gardens, said: “We were delighted with the positive response from Bellway to sponsor this year’s event, considering that they were generous enough to sponsor us for the first time in 2019.

“The reply from Bellway to our request for sponsorship this time around was almost immediate, and it was heartening to know that they were willing to support the community of Fradley once again, and in particular the Fradley Open Gardens event.

“Due to the significant cost of insuring the event for the safety of all those attending, Bellway’s donation will go a long way to helping us to cover these costs and help us to host a safe event for all those attending across the two days.”

Marie Richards, sales director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “We are always looking at ways we can support local causes and initiatives which help to improve the lives of people within the communities where we build.

“Having sponsored Fradley Open Gardens back in 2019 and seen how popular it is with residents in the village, we were delighted to be able to resume our relationship with the organisers and lend a helping hand to get the event up and running again after a two-year gap due to the pandemic.”
