Burton youngsters’ top class displays

PLENTY of medals were stacked up as Burton AC athletes travelled to various venues for the County Schools competitio­ns.

In the intermedia­te (up to year 11) group, gold and silver medal winners in the track and jumps will represent their county at the Masons Trophy this weekend in Stoke, while it’s only gold medallists selected for the throws.

There were golds for Isla Swindlehus­t (100m, 200m), Lewis Darosa (long jump), Katie Brant (80m hurdles), Simon Ganley (100m), Alice Tyler (200m, 400m), George Kugelmann (discus), Lewis Da Rosa (long jump), Joel Cantrill (300m), Nathan Mugoti (long jump), Izzy Gould (hammer), Martha Wong (800m), Kaiden Ramsay (long jump, with a personal best of 6.69m and club record), Maisie Trueman (3000m with a PB and club record), Freya Bruno (200m with a PB of 26.5), Izzy Fellows (discus and javelin), Simon Ganley (100m) and Morgan Fletcher (800m).

Silver medal winners were Ffion Raw (200m), Katie Brant (100m), Freddie Kugelmann (400m), Lily Hill (100m), Rosie Tyler (300m), George Kugelmann (javelin), Sammy Mccafferty (800m), Kamil Kolodziej (long jump), Paige Barker (steeplecha­se) and Saffron Bowley (1500m).

There were bronzes for Ffion Raw (100m), Cara Mccarney (steeplecha­se), Joel Cantrill (800m), Kamil Kolodziej (300m), Kaiden Ramsay (100m), Daniel Perkins (800m with PB Grade 4 standard), Sammy Mccafferty (200m) and Jack Dennis (800m).

Megan Smith came fourth in the steeplecha­se, Connie Lees was fourth in the 1500m and Issy Harmon fifth in the 800m with a PB of 2:43.8.

In the senior girls section, Maddie Hughes won gold in the hammer at the Leicesters­hire Schools competitio­n, Rachel Burke won the hammer and Kaliyah Morant Hudson was first in both the long jump and triple jump.

Katie Scott won silver in the triple jump at the Staffordsh­ire Schools competitio­n.

■SIX Burton AC athletes represente­d Derbyshire in the Northern Inter-county event in York.

In the Under-15 boys, Dan Brackstone ran the 100m along with Nathan Mugoti, both just short of PBS. Dan also ran the 200m in a PB of 24.67.

Reese Robinson competed in the javelin, throwing 29m48, only 7cm short of his PB.

In the long jump, Nathan won the U15 boys and Kaiden Ramsay won the U17 mens.

There were three U17 ladies in action – Maisie Trueman in the 1500m, Isabelle Fellows in the javelin and Freya Bruno in the medley relay.

Imogen Laugharne (Amber Valley) was also in action, finishing second in the high jump. She is a talented Derbyshire multi-eventer and trains with Burton AC throws coach Jaime Walker.
