ANPR cameras will shop customers who exceed supermarket parking limit

NEW SYSTEM WILL ISSUE £90 FINES TO SHOPPERS PARKED LONGER THAN 90 MINUTES

DRIVERS who overstay at a Lidl supermarket in Burton risk being fined £90 as the shop is to introduce number plate recognition technology.

The changes will happen at the store in Derby Street, which was Lidl’s first supermarket in the town.

The car park will get a ANPR parking management system to register the number plates of cars going in and out, so fines can be given for those which overstay.

It will be free to park for 90 minutes for Lidl customers, after this time drivers risk a £90 fine.

The changes have been given approval by East Staffordshire Borough Council and was among the latest planning applications to get the green light.

Lidl also has its second newer store in Lichfield Street, built on the site of the town’s old rugby club ground, which the club sold to the supermarket and has used the cash to move to a new ground in Tatenhill.

The second store opened in February. This plan does not involve the Lichfield Street store.

Meanwhile, home improvements remain the most popular projects which require council planning permission.

In the last seven days, nine planning applications regarding home extensions have been submitted and approved by the borough council.

Here are the latest plans given the go ahead:

Lidl, Derby Street, Burton – updating car park: The supermarket’s car park is having a management system installed that will read the number plates of cars using the facility, fining them if they stay for too long. Three automatic number plate recognition (APNR) cameras, as well as 14 signs warning non-customers of their presence have been approved by the council.

There will be no charge for up to 90 minutes, with a £90 charge for those breaking any of the parking restrictions. The restrictions will be in place continuously every day.

New units being placed at Ninth Avenue in Burton:

Approved are plans for the building of three new units next to the site where Toby Carvery and Miller and Carter are located.

Two of the three units will be larger than the third, and associated parking has also been approved, but it is yet unknown which firms will be moving into the units.

Demolition of existing service station in Rolleston:

Plans have been approved for the demolition of the service station and MOT centre in Rolleston, replacing it with three detached houses with garages.

Farm to get an upgrade in Abbots Bromley: A farm has been given approval to build a new agricultural building. The new unit will be used as a replacement for an older general purpose building on site.

Loft conversion planned for Rolleston: The council has approved a roof alteration which includes a rear dormer extension to facilitate a loft conversion. Furthermore, a porch and bay window to the front elevation will also be installed.

It will be free to park for 90 minutes for Lidl customers, after this time drivers risk a £90 fine.
