More delays expected on town roads as gas works begin

FOUR-WAY LIGHTS ALL WEEK DURING JUNCTION REPAIRS

PEOPLE travelling in and around Burton this week will need to plan ahead due to significan­t roadworks.

The latest set of works run from today until Friday, June 24. This includes four-way temporary lights in the town centre where major work is taking place.

Anyone who needs to go out on the roads around Burton may want to check before setting off to see how the works could impact their journeys.

Some will include temporary traffic lights or some form of traffic control, which can delay journeys.

A new four-way traffic light system has been placed on the junction between Union Street and New Street in Burton town centre, which is set to remain in operation until Monday, June 27.

Gas company Cadent is carrying out work on the junction which is causing serious delays during busy hours. Cadent, alongside Staffordsh­ire County Council, will continue its work on Station Street, which is set to last for 30 weeks to install new cycle lanes.

The road will be closed and a temporary one-way diversion route has been put in place.

The A38 has had one lane closed since Monday, May 30, and will remain shut until 5.30am until the end of June, excluding weekends.

National Highways is cutting grass within the central reservatio­n, leaving lane closures on the northbound and southbound carriagewa­ys, it says.

Lanes will be closed from the Toyota island to the Alrewas junction.

The roadworks are likely to cause delays throughout the evenings and into the mornings.

Staffordsh­ire County Council will also close Mill Stream Lane, just off the Claymills Junction of the A38 from today until Friday, June 24.

The authority is carrying out pothole repairs.

The council will also be working in Bladon View in the town today and tomorrow, dealing with signing and lighting. Delays are likely as a twoway traffic control system will be in place.

It will also be working on Belvedere Road next to Queen’s Hospital on

Wednesday for highway bollard repairs. A multi-way traffic control system will be in place, with delays again likely.

Staffordsh­ire County Council is also continuing to work on Saxon Street until June 29, to carry out upgrades to the junction at the end of the road by Stanton Road.

A diversion route is in operation, with delays likely as the road is closed.

Council highways staff will be working on Postern Road in Tatenhill dealing with drainage works.

The road will be closed with a diversion heading out towards Needwood.

Western Power Distributi­on will continue work on Farm Road, Rolleston Road, Harper Avenue and Horninglow Road North, which is set to last until the end of the month.

Traffic controls are likely to cause delays, as multi-way signals are in place.

Gas Transforma­tion Company Limited will continue its work on Harehedge Lane until July 22.

South Staffs Water is working on Beaconsfie­ld Road until the end of July for utility repair and maintenanc­e works. Delays are likely as a multi-way traffic control system will be in place.

The water company is also working in Field Lane until the end of the month for utility repair and maintenanc­e works. Delays are expected as a multi-way traffic control system will be in place.

Utility Distributi­on Networks will be working in Wellington Road until Friday for utility repair and maintenanc­e works.
