Key workers pop in to say hello
CARE HOME WELCOMES FIREFIGHTERS FOR A CUPPA AND A BUTTY WITH RESIDENTS
A SWADLINCOTE care home recently welcomed key workers to enjoy homemade treats with its staff and residents.
The event was so popular, the care home now invites keyworkers every Friday from noon to 2pm.
Cadley Hill View care home, situated in Darklands Road and operated by Ideal Carehomes, launched “Give Back Friday” in April, inviting local key workers to the care home for a chip butty and a hot or cold drink.
David Godrich, home manager, said: “We thought it would be a great idea to give back to the community, so our residents discussed what we should all do.
“We originally hosted ‘Give Back Friday’ as a one-off event, but we got such an overwhelming turnout that we decided to do it every Friday.
‘The key workers, emergency service workers and professionals that come along are welcome to stay and get to know our lovely residents, or they can take their treat away. We know they have busy jobs!’
As the days became warmer, the staff and residents at Cadley Hill View decided to change their ‘Give Back Friday’ treats from June, from chip butties to sweet treats and desserts for visiting workers to enjoy in the sun.
One resident, Marie Thompson 97, said: “We really do appreciate the national services that go unrecognised far too much, it was a joy to see them rest and relax and have some fun for an hour.”
Niall Garner, from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We really appreciate Cadley Hill View care home giving back to the emergency services.
“Many thanks to all the brilliant, helpful staff and residents.”
All key workers in the Swadlincote area are welcome to pop by Cadley Hill View each Friday between noon and 4pm for a treat and a chat.
Cadley Hill View is a purpose-built luxury residential and dementia care home.
With 66 en-suite bedrooms, the home provides person-centred care and a full and varied activities programme.
