Theme parks in inversion count battle
A STAFFORDSHIRE theme park has taken a dig at another UK theme park which is opening a new rollercoaster next month.
Alton Towers, the biggest theme park in the country, has made the subtle dig following the launch of a new rollercoaster in Flamingo Land in Yorkshire.
Flamingo Land is to launch ‘Sik’ next month. It is an £18 million rollercoaster which boasts 10 inversions. It has been billed by Flamingo as “an adrenaline-fuelled, white-knuckle roller coaster with a stomach-churning, head-spinning 10 inversions”.
Alton Towers responded by referencing its own Smiler, a rollercoaster with its 14 inversions, saying: “Why settle for 10 inversions when you can have 14?” Flamingo Land responded in humorous fashion, saying: “Why settle for Towers when you can have a whole land.”
Flamingo Land then posted a wink emoji following the cheeky remark on their social media pages. One thrill-seeker on social media replied saying: “The Smiler had 14 inversions nine-years-ago”.
Another added: “What about Smiler at Alton Towers? Pretty sure that has 14 inversions.”
A final thrill seeker said: “Guys, I hate to break it to you but there are two coasters in the world with more inversions than yours. Flamingo Land is a theme park, zoo, and resort located in Kirby Misperton, North Yorkshire.
“Sik” is a multi-inversion rollercoaster similar to Colossus at Thorpe Park, but features a steeper drop, trains with lapbars, thicker steel track and a cable lift hill, reports Leicestershire Live. The ride has been named “Sik” in honour of the local clothing brand “Sik Silk”.
