Curry diners help Kerry’s charity for Kenyan kids

- By MAIL REPORTER editorial@burtonmail.co.uk

A RESTAURANT in Burton was packed out on Monday night as people supported a charity that provides a refuge for children in Kenya.

Mum Kerry Watson, who is from Stretton, held a curry night at the Apne Restaurant in Cross Street in aid of the Footprints Family UK charity.

Kerry, or “Mama Kerry” as she is often referred to, was delighted with the response

She said: “We thank Mr Hussein, the owner of Apne, and his staff who massively supported The Footprints Family during this event and provided our guests with excellent food choices. The money we raised exceeded our expectations: the money will more than cover two months’ worth of dry food such as rice and maize, flour and beans, sugar and cooking oil. All essential food items that will feed over 52 children teachers and care givers every day for two months.”

Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson supported the event with a hospitality auction prize. Kerry founded the Footprints Children’s Home in Kenya in 2010. In April of that year it welcomed its first five children.

With its growth over the years, the Footprints Family now supports more than 50 children with vital education pathways, food programmes, healthcare and holistic development and employs 15 local people.

Kerry said said the charity was now looking forward to a sell-out annual charity ball at the Hilton St George’s Park on Saturday, November 26. Tickets are available now by contacting vsr.footprints@gmail.com,

The Footprints Family is now also part of the One Lottery. Buying a ticket means a percentage goes to Kerry’s charity.
