Bird box boost for youngsters

- By JOSEPH RICHARDS joseph.richards@reachplc.com

BIRD boxes have been donated to a primary school to help the children give nature a home.

All Saints CE Primary School in Alrewas was given the boxes by housebuilder David Wilson Homes for World Wildlife Day.

The pair of bird boxes, which come with small cameras, will help educate pupils on how best to support wildlife, while being able to watch the life cycle of the birds that nest in the boxes.

It also followed National Nest Box Week, which took place in February, and marks the beginning of birds’ breeding season.

All Saints headteacher Eleanor Wilson said: “Our children are fascinated by nature and we’re lucky enough to live in a village with a real diversity of wildlife. We are excited to install the bird boxes and cameras, and hope some birds make it their home soon.”

World Wildlife Day is a United Nations campaign to celebrate all of the world’s wild animals and plants and the contribution that they make to our lives and the health of the planet.

David Wilson Homes supports wildlife at its developments and celebrating its national partnership with the RSPB in order to help give nature a home.

The housebuilder’s collaboration with the school has encouraged the younger children in the area to focus on providing homes for their feathered friends in the neighbourhood.

Steve Barton, of David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “It’s really important that we support the communities in the areas where we build.

“All Saints CE Primary School is working hard to support both its own and local ecology and wildlife, and we are happy to provide a donation to help them to continue their learning outdoors whilst benefiting local wildlife.”

The school is located near the housebuilder’s Anson Gardens development in Hay End Lane, Fradley.
