Da iawn to learners
COLEG Menai Welsh learners celebrated success recently at the fourth Welsh for Adults Awards Ceremony, held Y Galeri, Caernarfon.
Following a generous donation from the Park Jones Trust, family, friends and tutors joined the learners in a glittering ceremony to celebrate the achievements of those learning Welsh with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai/Coleg Menai.
Well-known S4C television personality and producer Nia Parry presented the lively evening, and awards were handed out to learners in various categories from each college within the Grŵp and an overall winner was chosen from each category.
Awards were also presented to the Class of the Year, and learners were given the opportunity of thanking their tutors for all their hard work throughout the year by nominating a tutor from each college site for the title of Tutor of the Year.
Lauren Oliver was delighted to win the Learner of the Year award at Entry level. Her tutor, Fflur Rees Jones, said that Lauren deserved the award because “She is an exceptional student and has made excellent progress over the past year and a half.” Lauren was congratulated further as she was also announced as the overall winner across all college sites at entry level.
At foundation level, Katie Gill was the winner. Katie, from Y Felinheli, is learning Welsh to use the language at work, with her friends and young daughter. Her tutor, Lowri Mair Jones, said: “Her enthusiasm is infectious. She always brings fun to the classroom and is always prepared to speak Welsh at every possible opportunity.”
Two classes from the Menai area were successful in the Class of the Year Competition.
The Entry 2 class, Bangor, won the second prize for their evening of games aimed at other Welsh learners. The Foundation 1 class from Bangor came third after their efforts in organising a walk and talk to Abergwyngregyn waterfall in April.
