Little festival with big heart

-

ASOLAR powered disco and laughing yoga all feature in a family festival this summer.

The music festival event called Ymuno - meaning “join together” - is in Rhyd-y-Foel near Abergele from Friday, July 1 to Monday, July 4.

This year’s line-up of local, national and international musicians includes KOG & the Zongo Brigade, Sorceress, The Turbans, Renegade Brass Band and The Impellers. Also on stage are Denuo, Hannah Scott, William the Conqueror and Mister Keith.

Known by its loyal followers as the “small festival with a big heart”, the Ymuno Festival began in 2009 when two friends opened their North Wales rooftop terrace to people for a balmy summer’s evening full of live music and food.

It has a strong community, family ethos and a reputation for nurturing emerging musicians, especially Welsh artists.

Whilst the festival is first and foremost a music festival focusing on folk and funk, Ymuno offers festival goers a complete experience. Children will be able to enjoy den building and giant bubbles, an aerial circus and family poetry.

There will be “laughing yoga”, inspiring speakers and recycled jewellery making for adults.

Graffiti boards and a mini market featuring crafts will also be on sale.

North Wales Wildlife Trust will help people to learn about local wildlife and ecology while North Wales Natural Building Centre will make a mini oak timber frame building with the kids using traditional methods and natural resources.

As well as the solar-powered disco, recycled junk will be transformed into both an LED garden and a percussion experience culminating in a musical parade.

Organisers quote one guest who loved a previous festival. The guest said: “My five-year-old son was grumpy the next day and when I asked him what was wrong he replied ‘I want to live at Ymuno and you won’t let me’.”

Ymuno Summer festival is at Bryn Ffanigl Ganol Farm, Rhydy-Foel near Abergele, from Friday, July 1 to Monday, July 4.
