Big win for Caernarfon
AFTER losing their first four matches of the season Caernarfon made it five wins in a row when they triumphed 8-4 at Llanfairpwll in Division B of the North Wales Coast Bowling League last Saturday.
Top performer on the day for the Cofis was Dafydd Rhys Williams with a 21-7 card.
Other away winners were: Ali Jones (21-11), David Noel Williams (21-14), Dion Williams (21-15), Gavin Davies (21-18) and Eiddon Jones (21-19).
As well as winning 6-4 on games, Caernarfon edged the aggregates by just three chalks so also claimed the bonus two.
Blaenau Ffestiniog enjoy an eightpoint lead at the Division A summit after taking the spoils 9-3 at Abergele.
The Quarrymen made it eight wins in nine outings, Barry John Hughes top block on 21-4, while Richard Allan Jones triumphed 21-8.
Penygroes lost 7-5 at Vardre B in Division D.

● Bethesda, 2015 losing finalists in the North Wales Coast Bowls League’s Handicap Cup, have progressed through the first round this time, overcoming Llanrwst A in a home-andaway split by 225-182 points.

● Bethesda swept through their Gwynedd Bowls Cup opening test with a flourish – only to land a daunting challenge against trophy holders Llanrwst in the next round.
Ties in the eight-a-side competition, which is played on a four-athome and four away basis, are settled on points and Bethesda piled up a crop against Llandrillo.
Other first round results: Bangor City beat Beaumaris B; Beaumaris A beat Holyhead; Blaenau Ffestiniog won outright against Benllech; Conwy beat Caernarfon; Llanfairpwll beat Penygroes; Llanrwst beat Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr beat Craig-y-Don (preliminary round winners over Criccieth).

● Llangefni had four single-figure cards to show from their 7-3 win at Academi Llanfair, where they maintained their Anglesey/Bangor and District Bowls League Monday Division title push (May 30).
Geraint Williams led the way for Llangefni with 21-4, as the visitors atoned for a damaging 8-2 flop against reigning champions Penygroes in a rearranged fixture.
In that home calamity, at least Llangefni’s Pat Graham resisted on 21-7, whereas Penygroes’ list included Mike Evans and Gareth Gillard both 21-8.
League leaders Bangor City, on a free day, had their dominance threatened by the three main chasers, notably Penygroes, who demolished Beaumaris 7-3, as Dion Williams with 21-4 and Derek Stanley 21-14 led the rival lists.
Bethesda enjoyed an 8-2 haul on an away day to Benllech, and Criccieth produced a 7-3 result at Caernarfon, while Menai Bridge v Llanfairpwll was postponed.
● Beaumaris leapfrogged to the top of the Anglesey/Bangor and District Bowls League’s Wednesday Division table, as reward for a crushing 11-1 triumph over Benllech at the Castle green.
The deposed title front-runners Llanfairpwll were without a fixture, while Caernarfon dominated 9-3 against Bethesda at their Rachub base, although the hosts’ Dylan Roberts was best at 21-8.
Caernarfon’s cause was led by Brian Jones and David Noel Williams, both with 21-9.
● Beaumaris A appeared to have lost decisively at Criccieth in the Gwynedd Senior Citizens’ Bowls League but the 7-2 score line exaggerated the differences between the rivals.
While the games went against Beaumaris 2-5, they trailed in the aggregates by only 123-129 points, enabling Criccieth to collect the bonus, even though the visitors’ David T Evans excelled at 21-8.
Benllech were photostat 7-2 losers at Conwy, where Barbara Hulme headed the Seasiders’ list on 21-16.

The annual competition, hosted at Caernarfon’s green, produced a knife edge final, which went to the very last end, with David P Williams and Elfyn Jones snatching a dramatic 21-19 win
The opponents who stretched them all the way were Geraint Booth of Llanfairpwll and Gavin Davies of Caernarfon.
Semi-finals: David P Williams and Elfyn Jones beat Dylan Roberts and Sion Guto Roberts (Bethesda) 21-15, Geraint Booth and Gavin Davies beat Jonathan Jones and Eiddon Jones (both Caernarfon) 21-14.
