A soft spot for all things fabric

-

OUR fortnightly Craft Creations feature this time showcases the talents of Sarah Frith who enjoys creating pretty things from her love of haberdashery.

Sarah says: “I’ve been sewing all my life, I remember receiving a WI 1st prize when I was aged nine or 10 at a garden party in Cheshire where I grew up... so I guess my love of fabric has always been there.

“I used to love making things for my children when they were young, from clothes, fancy dress outfits and especially cushions.

“I love choosing fabric and haberdashery that co-ordinate (I probably spend far too long doing this) and creating something totally original, whether it’s for myself, as a commission or for my recently opened etsy shop! I think I may have a slight fabric buying addiction, like many fellow crafters that I speak to! and buttons, like a kid in a sweet shop, I probably shouldn’t keep them colour sorted in glass jars!

“I also have created some sewing kits, as I hear many people saying ‘I wish I could sew’ so these contain every thing to make a cushion/ bunting etc. with easy to follow instructions.

My ‘proper job is seamstress in a large hotel here in Llandudno which I love, again its the thing about taking just flat fabric and creating something practical like four metre drop curtains or small scraps that turn into a appliqued personalised cushion that is loved by the recipient.

“I recently attended an upholstery course and this I am really loving, and have managed to combine the two by reupholstering chairs in patchwork.

“I’m never happier than when I’m in my sewing room, radio on, and just ‘making‘.
