Cofis keep on winning

BLAENAU Ffestiniog hold a seven-point lead at the North Wales Coast League Division A summit after last weekend’s 9-3 beating of visitors Conwy A.

The Quarrymen made it nine wins in 10 outings with another fine display which Jason Hughes emerge as top block with a 21-8 card.

Other home winners were: Kenneth Jones (20-10), Barry John Hughes (2114), Iwan Vaughan Jones (21-17), Martin Wyn Hughes (21-19), Dylan Vaughan Jones (21-20) and David Wyn Hughes (21-20).

This Saturday sees Blaenau visit St Asaph A.

Caernarfon made it six straight wins in Division B when they saw off visitors Bethesda 9-3.

Dafydd Rhys Williams topped the home chart with a 21-1 triumph.

Dion Williams (21-6) was another single-figures success for the Cofis, whose other winners were Steve Allan (21-11), Gavin Davies (21-13), Ali Jones (21-14), David Noel Williams (21-16) and Alan Evans (21-19).

Caernarfon will be hard pressed to make it seven in a row this Saturday as they visit leaders Penmaenmaw­r A.

Penygroes are third in Division D after an 11-1 drubbing of Penrhyn New Hall B.

Tom Parry headed the home charge at 21-7, Gareth Gillard also shining on 21-9.

Other home victors were: Aled Wynne (21-10), Peter Hanks (21-11), Len Pitts (21-12), Fred Stansfield (21- 14), Mark Jones (21-15), David Ian Jones (21-18) and Ken Frazer (21-19).

Penygroes travel to second-placed Llanrwst B on Saturday. ● A 21-1 achievemen­t by Dave Jones was the stand-out feature as Llanfairpw­ll soared to the top of the Anglesey/ Bangor and District Bowls Wednesday League last week ( June 8).

The villagers made their impact with an 8-4 performanc­e against Caernarfon at their opponents’ green, where at least the home side’s Eiddon Jones resisted at 21-6.

The previous week’s title pacemakers, Beaumaris, on 35 points, were not in action, which enabled Llanfairpw­ll, now with 38, to clamber above them, while Benllech moved into third spot after their sparkling home show.

The Seasiders slammed Bethesda 10-2, Pat Smithson 21-4, Will Jones 21-5 and Dennis Taylor 21-8. ● Mid-table Beaumaris and Holyhead both completed clean-sweep 10-0 victories over lowly placed opponents in the Anglesey/Bangor and District Bowls League’s Monday Division last week ( June 6).

Beaumaris thrashed visitors Benllech, while Holyhead’s big triumph at the Park green was against Caernarfon.

Bethesda also outplayed still-winless Academi Llanfair 9-1, with Paul Williams on 21-6 submitting the best card.

Bangor City, the division leaders, were without a match, while there were two postponeme­nts – Criccieth v Llangefni and Llanfairpw­ll v Penygroes.
