THERE has been plenty of transfer activity over the past week at Caernarfon Town, where manager Iwan Williams aims to build a squad capable of winning back-to-back Huws Gray Alliance championships.

Joining the Canaries are defenders Michael Johnston and James Phillips, goalkeeper Carl Jones and striker Corrig McGonigle, while leaving The Oval are glovesman Paul Pritchard, midfielder Rob Jones and frontman Kevin Lloyd.

Committing themselves to Town for another season are: Joe Williams, Grahame Austin, Chris Williams, Clive Williams, Gareth Edwards, Jay Gibbs, Nathan Craig, Gareth Jones-Evans, Danny Brookwell, Darren Thomas and 2015/16 top-scorer Jamie Breese.

Former Bangor City defender Johnston arrives from Welsh Premier League side MBi Llandudno.

The former Tranmere Rovers player is vastly experienced at Welsh Premier League level, where he has made more than 250 appearances and has won the WPL title and three Welsh Cups with Bangor.

Manager Williams said: “Mike is a huge signing for Caernarfon Town and it proves that we again mean business next season.”

Phillips impressed during the recent reserves’ trial match.

Williams added: “James has played for Caernarfon in previous years and won the reserve league title whilst at the club a couple of years back.

“In the trial match he showed great composure, technique and athleticism, and he possesses a long throw which we can take advantage of. He’s a full-back by trade but I’m convinced we can coach him to play the holding role, as he’s so comfortable in possession.”

Jones lands at Caernarfon from Holyhead Hotspur, where he has spent the past three seasons.

“We think that Carl has the capabilities to become a success at Caernarfon Town,” said the manager.

“He’s tall, commanding and very confident in his own ability. He dominates the box, has great technique, as so many left-footers do, and sweeps well if teams look to turn the defence and run in behind.”

Lloyd has returned to Llanrug United, Rob Jones has been released as Town look to strengthen in other areas, and Pritchard is back with hometown club Holyhead given his new career path and being unable to offer the commitment demanded at Caernarfon.
