BIG hitters in comedy mingle with Wales’ major players in music, drama, dance in Pontio’s autumnwinter programme.

Highlights of the programme at the newly opened arts and innovation centre in Bangor include a gig by Irish singer-songwriter Christy Moore, visits to North Wales by Rob Beckett, Rich Hall and Tape Face and the north Wales première of Rhys a Meinir - a musical collaboration between Super Furry Animals member Cian Ciarán and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

BalletLorent bring their familyfriendly reimagining of Snow White to the centre, Ballet Cymru perform Romeo and Juliet and the season kicks off with National Dance Company Wales’ Folk 2016 tour.

There’s plenty of drama too, including Merch yr Eog a multilingual play in Welsh, Breton and French by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru and Teatr Piba, Spine by Soho Theatre, Macbeth – Director’s Cut by Volcano Theatre and A Good Clean Heart by Neontopia.

Three local choirs will celebrate milestones at Pontio this forthcoming season - Côr Seiriol, who celebrate their 25th anniversary, Hogia’r Ddwylan who celebrate 50 years and Côr Glanaethwy will launch their new CD during an event which will also see the unveiling of a sculpture of Theatr Gwynedd founder Wilbert Lloyd Roberts.

Children attending Pontio’s weekly ‘BLAS’ workshops will perform their first ever show at Theatr Bryn Terfel and monthly studio theatre shows for children, all with free fun after-show workshops and wraparound activities so families can make a day of it.

Cwmni Mega return with their Welsh language panto Blodeuwedd, and Theatr Bara Caws bring Syr Wynff a Plwmsan to a new audience with Raslas Bach a Mawr.

Elen ap Robert, Pontio’s artistic director said: “I’m delighted to be bringing such exciting events to Bangor, especially since we are a new venue for many of these highprofile companies.

“I hope audiences who have already enjoyed our cabaret, comedy and other shows will look forward to coming back in the season to come and those who are yet to visit find something to enthrall and excite you in this programme.

“I assure you there will be a warm welcome for you here at Pontio.” ● Tickets: pontio.co.uk / 01248 382828.
