Gulls scare off postie

-

MARAUDING seagulls have stopped the post on a housing estate.

A postie refused to deliver mail to Hilda Owen’s home in Caernarfon because he was scared of the birds.

She says her husband Dylan didn’t get last Saturday’s post until Monday due to the divebombing gulls at Cae Mur on the Maesincla estate.

“Dylan received a sticker on the letter clearly stating that our house is inaccessible due to dangerous conditions,” said Hilda.

“The Royal Mail have given the reason as being due to seagulls.

“I assume the mail was sent back to the sorting office on Saturday and delivered again on the Monday.

“What will it take for something to be done and for the council to see that there is a problem with the seagulls around Cae Mur?” A MAN was horrified when he bit into a sandwich and found someone’s tooth in the bread.

Jeff Parry was at home tucking into a beef butty made from a Warburtons white sliced when there was a sickening crunch.

Worried Hilda also raised her concerns in April, when she said she’d been left “terrified” by seagull attacks while walking her dog Meg. She insists nothing has been done about the problem since. “It’s got to the point where it’s impossible to walk with the dog during the breeding season, as they swoop down from roofs and attack,” she said.

“It’s getting ridiculous and something needs to be done.”

Town councillor Maria Sarnacki, wedged in the bread he initially thought it was one of his, but it soon became apparent the tooth was someone else’s.

Wife Clare, 44, of Talysarn, near Caernarfon, said: “Jeff had come home from work to make lunch for himself, which he does most days. But when he bit down there was a loud crunching sound. who represents the Cadnant ward, called for Gwynedd council to put the problem of seagulls back on their agenda.

Cllr Sarnacki said: “ConwyConwy council have put seagullsgulls back on theirs and we need ed Gwynedd to do the same. e. We can’t have a repeat of this next year.”

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Royal Mail apologises to customers on the Maesincla estate for any recent disruption to mail deliveries. We aree continuing to deliver mailail to the estate as normal.

“However, there havee been isolated incidents where it hash not t been possible to complete deliveries.

“Our people’s safety is paramount, but we would like to assure customers that we will always make every attempt to deliver the mail first time.”

“Initially, lly, when he spat the tooth, we thought he’d lost his own.

“But it was clear it was someone else’s which was lodged in the bread.

“The cooked beef was cut too thinly so it can only be the bread.”

The couple contacted Warburtons, having bought the loaf at an Aldi store in Gwynedd council said the root cause of the problem is food waste left or thrown onto streets and public areas, areas, whichwhich attracts the birds intointo aa number of the countcounty’s seaside towns. AA spokesperson saisaid: “The matter hahas been discussed bby members of the ccouncil’s environment scrutiny committee, with a rereport which inincluded a number ofof possible options onon thet control of gulls considconsidered by members.bers. ““MembersMb decided that the council should continue to provide information to property owners/ occupiers on actions they can take to stop attracting gulls into towns and villages.” Porthmado Porthmadog.

Mrs Parry added: “It was a horrifying thing to happen.”

A spokesman for Warburtons said: “Product safety and quality is of paramount importance to Warburtons.

“We have been in touch with the customer and will be undertaking an investigation to establish what happened.”
