Cajun gig promises to warm up night

-

FROM Grand Coteau Louisiana, Lisa Trahan makes one of only three UK appearances at Caban in Brynrefail on Thursday, August 11, backed by an international line-up of Hot Peppers.

Lisa was raised in Scott, Louisiana, and is steeped in a long history of French culture and music.

For the last 20 years Lisa has been a member of the two time Grammy nominated band the Magnolia Sisters who played an awards ceremony in Los Angeles a few months ago with Ry Cooder on guitar and Don Was on bass.

Recently Lisa has also been fronting her own band Lisa Trahan et L’espirit Cadien.

That band’s new CD If Those Shoes Could Talk has just been nominated for best debut CD in the 2016 Louisiana Cajun Awards and Lisa herself is nominated in the best female singer category.

At Caban her band, the Hot Peppers, will consist of two of France’s finest Cajun musicians - Pierre Henry Pichot on fiddle and multi-instrumentalist David Rolland - plus Owen Hughes on drums.

In addition to singing, Lisa plays accordion with a knucklebusting drive on a repertoire of bluesy shuffles, waltzes and swinging numbers guaranteed to raise the temperature on even the coolest August evening.

Caban will open for food at 6pm and Lisa and band will be onstage at 8pm. Tickets at £10 can be bought from Caban (01286 685500) and Palas Print, Caernarfon (01286 674631).
