SKIP BOSSES PLEAD GUILTY

... to breaching conditions of their environmental permit but deny three further charges

- Eryl Crump

TWO directors of a Gwynedd waste business appeared in court charged with breaching the conditions of an environmental permit.

In a case brought by Natural Resources Wales, Patricia Mary Gaffey, 63, of Y Fron near Caernarfon, and Michael John Gaffey. 58, of Maes Gerddi, Porthmadog, appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Both entered guilty pleas to charges of failing to comply with the conditions of the environmental permit at the premises of Porthmadog Skip Hire on the Penamser Industrial Estate in Porthmadog between June 2014 and September 2015.

They also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an enforcement notice issued on June 24 last year and a sus- pension notice served in November.

But they denied three other charges of failing to comply.

Jonathan Austin, on behalf of the company, entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of operating without an environmental permit

Prosecutor Dudley said the crown court would consider whether or not the pleas were acceptable.

A third director, Joseph Benedict Gaffey, 52, of Madog Street, Porthmadog, did not attend the hearing.

His barrister told the court he had called earlier in the morning to complain of not being well, and attempts to contact him subsequently had been unsuccessful.

Judge Niclas Parry adjourned the case until later in August.

He issued a warrant for the arrest of Joseph Gaffey but granted him time to obtain a medical certificate which would explain his absence from the hearing.

The other defendants were granted unconditional bail.
