Charity to ‘walk around the world’
LOCAL children’s cancer charity Gafael Llaw will be taking on an epic challenge this summer as they aim to walk around the world in a week – and they need your help!
This means getting enough people to walk a combined total of 25,000 miles in a week, between 13-19 August 2016.
To achieve this goal, the charity is inviting Gwynedd, and indeed people from all over Wales and the world who wish to support a good cause, to help them reach this goal.
Local company Red Dragon Softworks LTD have worked with Gafael Llaw to develop an app which records your daily steps. This means that wherever you are in the world you can take part. The app shows the combined daily total of everyone who will be using the app – in the hope that by the end of the week 25,000 miles will have been walked.
To download the app visit the app store and search ‘Walk the world’ – the app is available on apple devices and android, and costs between 0.79p-0.99p with all the money going to support better health care resources for children and young people in Gwynedd and Anglesey with cancer.
As well as the app, two local challenges have also been arranged to help boost the total:
Snowdon challenge, August 13, to start at 9am from Heights, Llanberis – a family friendly walk to the submit of Y Wyddfa / Snowdon.
Moonlight Walk, Friday 19 August, Caernarfon start time 10.30pm - The course is 10K, and will start and finish on the Quayside outside historic Caernarfon Castle. Entry costs just £15 per person and includes, refreshments at turnaround point, and a branded T-shirt.
