TIME TO VOTE FOR YOUR UNSUNG HEROES

-

THE search has now begun for the unsung heroes and heroines of our community.

Trinity Mirror North Wales, has once again joined forces with ScottishPower Foundation to host Your Champions 2016 and pay tribute to those who are making a real difference in our area. Your Champions Awards is this year celebrating its 19th year of recognising those unsung heroes in North Wales.

A glittering gala, red carpet event will be held at the St George’s Hotel, Llandudno, on Friday, October 7, with Welsh former international footballer and television presenter John Hartson on hand to present awards to this year’s successful champions.

The 2015 Champion of Champions was 17-year-old Gwenllian Boyns from Ruthin. Her mother Elen Meirion – sister of opera singer Rhys Meirion – fell down the stairs of her home in the middle of the night in April 2012, and died at the age of 43.

Gwenllian, who was 14 at the time, made the decision to donate her mother’s organs to give five other peo- ple the gift of life.

Since then she, along with her family and friends, have been working hard to raise money for charity in her memory.

Ann Loughrey, Trustee and Executive Officer of the ScottishPower Foundation, said: “Your Champions Awards provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the often unrecognised work of unsung heroes in the community.

Andrew Campbell, Daily Post Wales Editor, said: “Your Champions is a special event every year and we have been proud to play our part in highlighting some wonderful stories about the incredible work that goes behind the scenes of our communities. We hope that 2016 will be even more memorable and I would urge everyone out there who knows of an individual or group that is deserves recognition to let us know about them.”
