Council: What have you done to Caernarfon?

TO Councillors and Planners of Caernarfon:

I and my family have just returned from a holiday in Caernarfon, and I really feel I must put pen to paper to ask: What have you done to Caernarfon?

I went visiting places I remembered when I came to see my mother’s family in summer holidays, but I was shocked to see the state of the streets, with litter strewn everywhere and litter bins overflowing, buildings in need of a good makeover.

Where have all the good shops gone? All there seems to be are chip shops, take aways and no end of coffee shops and pubs. I couldn’t find a decent clothes shop or shoe shop anywhere.

Whoever planned the road system should be shot. It’s a wonder nobody has been killed. You take your life in your hands just to try to cross the roads. There seem to be cars coming from all directions, especially on the square and the speed they travel at is horrendous.

Councillors and planners, please take a look at Caernarfon through a visitor’s eyes and clean it up. I am saddened to see it go downhill. I cried when I returned to my hotel. The only thing that Caernarfon has going for it is the wonderful castle. Get rid of some of the take-aways and coffee shops, get new trade into the town and some light industry. I know many years ago the councillors of Caernarfon refused to let any industry into the area. How wrong they were. And clear the streets of all the rubbish, which could be done at the end of the day,

At the rate Caernarfon is going you will lose the young generation. They will move to better towns for work opportunities.

Please write to me with your comments and explain what you are going to do to better the environment of Caernarfon. Visitors will come to the castle and then leave for there is nothing really to keep them there.
