Thomas fires six-goal salvo

- by Dave Jones

CATRIN THOMAS netted a double hat-trick as Caernarfon Town Ladies continued their flying start to the season with a 13-0 victory at Bangor City last Sunday.

Thomas rejoined the Canaries this summer after a spell with Llandudno, where she was part of the team which reached last season’s FAW Women’s Welsh Cup Final.

The 28-year-old scored in Tudno’s 5-2 defeat to Cardiff City in the showpiece match at Latham Park, Newtown, and won much praise for her displays over the campaign.

This season the left-sided specialist has signed for hometown team Caernarfon, who are going all out to win the North Wales League title.

The sister of Canaries striker Darren, Catrin first started playing football for the local Cae Glyn underseven team more than 20 years ago.

She had a previous spell with Caernarfon before moving to Welsh Premier League side Llandudno.

Thomas was part of the Cofis team which made a great start to the season, winning 3-0 against Denbigh, and they followed up by hitting a baker’s dozen against Bangor.

It was the first time she has scored six goals in a match, her feat comprising a hat-trick in each half.

There were also two goals apiece for Anna Jones, Elena Julio, and Ffion Owen, with Danielle Barnfield adding a single.

Caernarfon are top of the league on goal difference.

Pwllheli remained unbeaten after a 2-0 win over visitors Amlwch Town.

Erin Parry and Kate Godfrey were on target for the Llŷn side.

It was not such a good day for Bethel, who were thrashed 6-1 at Llanfair United, Ffion Williams with the only goal for the travellers.

Denbigh Town returned to winning ways by hammering Airbus 6-0, Hollie Groves (2), Steph Walsh (2), Lexi Smith and Chelsea Williams sharing the goals.

Champions Gap Northop Hall began their title defence with an 8-2 away beating of Brickfield, Hâf Morgan-Read netting five times.

Kinmel Bay blasted Prestatyn 7-1, Jasmine Kepil with a treble.

Fixtures – Sunday, September 4: Bethel v Denbigh Town, Brickfield v Pwllheli, Caernarfon Town v Airbus, Gap Northop Hall v Llanfair United, Kinmel Bay v Amlwch Town, Prestatyn v Bangor City.
