Cofis celebrate but Pwllheli hit by double loss
CAERNARFON were celebrating on Monday after beating Pwllheli seconds in a high-scoring North Wales League 2nd XI West Division encounter at Parc Bodegroes.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Cofis’ Jason Parry (82) and wicketkeeper Grant Peisley (60) concocted a crucial second-wicket stand of 107.
An unbeaten 26 from Andre Lambrecht then helped the visitors set a formidable 211-5 off their 40 overs.
Ioan Roberts took 2-32 for the hosts and Ioan Jones 2-48.
Caernarfon bowler Barry Roberts removed both Pwll openers with just 15 on the board before Rhys Griffiths and Sean Reilly steadied the ship with a partnership of 131.
Reilly reached 89 before being stumped by Peisley off Iwan Roberts, and Griffiths was still there at the close on 56 not out as the home team finished on 186-4, 25 behind the Cofis.
On a day when the batsmen generally dominated, Barry Roberts pocketed 2-17 and Iwan Roberts 2-26 for the visitors.
The points went 12-3 in Caernarfon’s favour.
Pwllheli seconds hope to bounce back at Tywyn & District this Saturday.
Sixteen points from safety at the Premier Division basement, Pwllheli firsts are close to the point of no return.
Pwll desperately need a victory away to fellow strugglers Hawarden Park this Saturday to keep their survival hopes alive.
Last weekend the Llŷn men scored 180-9 against Connah’s Quay, Neil Williams hitting 43 not out, Morgan Murray-Williams and Michael Hughes both 31.
Quay responded with 181-7 for an 11-4 result, Greg Munro grabbing 3-34 for the hosts.
