Moments in lives reflected in songs

-

FANS of Mercury Prize nominated folk singer Seth Lakeman will be among the first in the UK to hear tracks from his latest album, when he tops the bill at Gorjys Secret Festival on September 17.

The event will be staged in the grounds of Caer Rhun Hall Hotel, and celebrates the work of singer-songwriters.

Singer-songwriting is an art form that Seth has made his own, and will be showcasing in his new album Ballad of the Broken Few, released just the day before he appears at the festival.

He said: “I’ll be performing and playing songs from my solo work over the last 11 years plus a few of the new songs from the album.

“I’m certainly looking forward to performing at this festival - it’s great to be playing at a festival that is all about singer songwriters.”

Seth and his two brothers grew up immersed in folk music as their parents ran a folk club in Plymouth.

He said: “It wasn’t all I listened to, I listened to plenty of dance, heavy rock, AC/DC, bands like that, jazz... just about every genre going. But folk has roots and I have always loved the depth of what folk music is all about. I started young playing music and various instruments with my parents and brothers from a very early age.

“A lot of folk music comes from oral tradition, memories and moments in people’s lives.”
