CAERNARFON Town will aim to make it four straight wins in the Huws Gray Alliance when they welcome Holyhead Hotspur to The Oval tonight (7.30pm).

The reigning champions moved up to third in the table with a ruthless 6-1 away victory at Flint Town United last Saturday.

Nathan Craig was the star turn for the Canaries with a four-goal salvo in a win which came three days after a 5-1 home thrashing at the hands of Welsh Premier Rhyl in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

Town went ahead as early as the second minute at Cae-y-Castell when the hosts’ defence failed to deal with a Gareth Edwards shot, the ball running to Jamie Breese, who made no mistake as he confidently beat keeper Ben Jones from eight yards.

Town doubled their lead in the 25th minute when referee Tom Williams awarded them a penalty after Cory Williams was upended in the box by Ieuan Hewitt.

Craig sent Jones the wrong way, much to the delight of the travelling Cofi Army who stood behind the goal.

A promising passage of play for the Silkmen proved fruitless, then the hosts found themselves a further goal down in the 38th minute and again it was Craig who found the target.

The former Everton player outwitted Jones with a free-kick from 25 yards, the ball nestling in the bottom corner of the keeper’s right hand post.

Town keeper Paul Whitfield pulled off a splendid double save five minutes from the break to keep his side three ahead.

The Canaries continued to dominate possession after the half-time break and Cory Williams saw his effort two minutes after the restart blocked for a corner, from which Gareth Edwards rose above everyone at the far post to head Town’s fourth.

Flint refused to let their heads drop and enjoyed another short period of possession after this latest setback, during which they forced three corners in quick succession, but Caernarfon’s back-line stood firm.

The home side were forced into long range efforts as they found space in the final third at a minimum and their attempts to get back into the game were leaving them open to the break, which suited Town’s exciting front line of Kevin Lloyd, Darren Thomas, Breese and Cory Williams.

Flint’s Chris Li was shown the red card on the hour for fouling Thomas on the edge of the box and Craig completed a hat-trick when his free kick floated into the top corner.

James Hooper finally put the hosts on the scoresheet when he pounced on a rebound following a one-handed save from Whitfield, but it was Craig who had the last word as he perfectly timed his run into the penalty area to put away a Thomas cross.
