REV UP FOR BIKE RUN

10th annual charity ride

- Dion Jones

THERE’S just a few days to go until a group of bikers roar through Caernarfon as part of a charity fundraiser.

The tenth annual Owain Glyndŵr Trike and Bike Run will take place this Saturday with dozens of two and threewheel enthusiasts set to ride out from the town.

This year’s event will take place in aid of the Combat Stress charity - one of the UK’s leading mental health charities for ex-servicemen and women.

The event is being organised by Paul “Trike” Jones from Maesincla in Caernarfon.

And he has now issued a final call for other enthusiasts to join him on the journey - whatever the weather.

Paul said: “It’s been a decade since we’ve held these runs and they’ve grown in popularity every year.

“They’ve always been a tremendous success.

“We’ve traditionally held them during September to coincide with the date of Owain Glyndŵr’s proclamation as Prince of Wales in 1400.

“The atmosphere is amazing and we see people come back year after year because they’ve had such a good time.”

By now, the format of the Owain Glyndŵr Trike and Bike run is well established.

The past nine events have seen bikers and trikers following a route which take in Edward Longshanks’ now infamous ring of castles.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, September 17, where a group kitted out in flags and banners will roar off from the Slate Quay in Caernarfon on their 109 mile trek passing through Criccieth, Harlech, Blaenau Ffestiniog and Betwsy-Coed along the way

To date, the event has raised thousands of pounds for good causes and has grown considerably with more than 100 people taking part in the annual runs.

Paul added: “There’s usually a great turnout to see us off and welcome us back and as we are doing this year’s event in aid of a service charity, we’d love to see servicemen past and present coming along to support.

“I’ve noticed that since we’ve started doing these runs, there’s been a lot more interest in the history of Owain Glyndŵr and some schools now celebrate the date.”

The 2016 Owain Glyndŵr Trike and Bike Run will start at 12 noon on Saturday, September 17.

All those taking part are asked to arrive at the Slate Quay between 10am and 12 noon on the day where there will be free tea and coffee.

It costs £5 per person to enter the run will all the proceeds being donated

The run will finish at Bangor cricket club where there will be a buffet. ● Anyone interested in taking part in the Owain Glyndŵr Trike and Bike Run can contact 07876 303911 or e-mail paultrike@hotmail.co.uk
