Port aim to smash Town’s perfect start

-

BETHEL romped to a 13-0 victory at Bangor City in the North Wales Women’s Football League, reports Ben Bolton.

Ffion Williams began the rout with a good finish from a tight angle, then added a second before a Katie Midwinter penalty made it three.

Williams completed her hat-trick before the break.

A minute into the second half, Mari Gibbard latched onto an Alaw Jones through ball and slotted coolly into the bottom corner.

Leonie Prytherch made it six, then Williams notched her fourth.

Gibbard cleverly flicked home a corner for the eighth, then turned provider for Williams’ fifth goal.

Prytherch struck again, then Williams made it a double hat-trick.

Alaw Jones capped a player of the match display by setting up Prytherch for her treble before Williams hit her seventh.

Pwllheli beat Denbigh Town 4-2, Lois Thomas (2), Mari Hughes and Erin Parry sharing the goals.

PORTHMADOG will relish the prospect of trying to scupper leaders Prestatyn Town’s perfect start to the season when they visit the Motion Finance Stadium this Saturday (2.30pm).

Town head the Huws Gray Alliance table with a magnificent seven straight wins, but they will come up against a Port outfit lying third and boosted by big triumphs over Conwy Borough (5-1) and Holywell Town (1-0) over the past week.

Craig Papirnyk’s side edged a tight encounter against the Wellmen at Y Traeth last Saturday.

Rob Evans’ first-half strike was enough to secure maximum points.

Port keeper Tyler French denied Paul Williams from close range, then Wellmen defender Steven Thomas produced a goal-saving block from Joe Williams before the goal came on 37 minutes.

Gareth Jones-Evans whipped a curling ball around the retreating defence and Rob Evans, running in at the back post, drove low into the far corner of the net.

Jones-Evans and Gruff Williams both tested Holywell keeper John Rushton from long range before the break.

Both glovesmen did well in the second half, Rushton making a fine stop from a Gruff Williams free kick, while French kept out a close range header and bravely gathered a dangerous Lee Healey cross among flying boots deep into added time.

Last Wednesday saw Port produce a dramatic turnaround to claim all three points at Conwy.

Smarting after a 5-1 home loss to Guilsfield four days earlier, Port found themselves one-down at half time, Timmy Bigland running clear of the defence to score.

It was a different story after the break, however.

The score remained 1-0 until the 67th minute when Julian Williams’ deep corner was headed back into the goalmouth for Chris Jones to nod in from close range.

In the 76th minute a rapid counter from the visitors saw Jones set up Joe Williams for 2-1.

Julian Williams added a third from the penalty spot after Tom Clarke was fouled, then Jamie McDaid and Gruff Williams added further away goals.
