A TAXI driver who failed a roadside drug test as he was about to take children to school has been suspended from his job.

The cabbie was arrested at Llanrug, near Caernarfon, after testing positive for cannabis last Thursday morning in a roadside test by North Wales Police.

The 41-year-old, who works for Ivan’s Taxis in nearby Penygroes, had been about to drive the youngsters to a school in Bangor.

Ivan Jones-Parry, who owns Ivan’s Taxis, told our sisiter paper the Daily Post the driver would remain suspended until the results of drug tests came back.

He added: “He has been bailed by police and he has been suspended from any driving duties.

“We do not condone any driver being involved in drugs.

“We have offered to work with the police and all efforts will be made to get to the bottom of the matter.

“Gwynedd council have been informed and we will not be commenting any further.”

A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said: “This was a local road safety operation in conjunction with the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency).”

There were children in the taxi when police officers asked the cabbie to perform the test, but the spokeswoman said the car “had not gone anywhere so he hadn’t driven with them”.

A Gwynedd council spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of the matter and the council’s licensing service will be investigating and dicussing the matter with the police.”
