CRICCIETH EVENT LIT UP THE NIGHT

-

THOUSANDS of people braved the weather on Friday evening to enjoy the first Bonfire on the Beach in Criccieth for 30 years.

Despite heavy showers, around 4,000 people attended the event from all parts of Gwynedd.

As well as a large bonfire, there was a spectacular fireworks display, street food, live music and a whole load of seasonal activities for children.

During the evening Ysgol Tremadog were crowned winners of the Guy making competition for raising the most money for charity following a public vote at Dylan’s.

The winning Guy, alongside those of Ysgol Tremadog and Ysgol Treferthyr who were very close runners up, were all put on the bonfire to meet their fate.

Ysgol Tremadog received art vouchers, and all the money raised from the public vote will go to the Wales Air Ambulance, British Heart Foundation and Hope House/Tŷ Gobaith as the schools’ nominated charities.

The community bonfire evening was organised by Dylan’s Restaurant. Director, David Evans said: “We were overwhelmed by the number of people who turned out in such strength to support this event. As well as local people, there were those who had travelled from all over the county.

“This inevitably resulted in queues for food and drink and a bit of a gridlock on the main road, but we were helped by fantastic stewards from Criccieth RNLI and a number of local volunteers who kept everything under control.

“This definitely was a great evening, despite the weather, and the feedback we had on the night and through social media has been amazing.

“A big thank you goes out to everyone who helped make this a success. We certainly plan to
