Dewi launches parade song

-

DEWI Pws, Welsh actor, poet and singer launched “Cân y Parêd” (meaning The Parade Song) at Ysgol Cymerau, Pwllheli last week.

Dewi Pws has written and composed the song especially for the 2017 Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli that will be held this year on Saturday, February 25 at 11am, with all participants to arrive at the car park at Swyddfa Ardal Dwyfor, Embankment Road, Pwllheli by 10:30 am.

All schools in the Dwyfor area have received an information pack from Cymdeithas Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli committee which includes the song that is sung by Dewi Pws and Bryn Fôn.

The song was recorded at Stiwdio’r Drwm, Llanllyfni with the help of Ifan Jones from the band Candelas.

The aim is to encourage the children from the area to sing the song during the parade and also at the end on the Maes. On the Maes, a “Stomp Dewi Sant” singing competition will be held between all the children from the primary schools that feed into the local secondary schools.

Children from the secondary schools are also encouraged to sing with them.

Thereafter, the audience will vote by going to stand by a red, white or green flag that will each represent one of the three secondary schools. The winners will receive the “Clod y Parêd” cup to be held for a year at the secondary school.

“As someone who has moved to Pen Llŷn to live, I am delighted to be able to contribute to the success of Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli, and I sincerely hope the song will be a great way to encourage local children to appreciate the local Welsh culture and language which is so important to this part of Wales.” said Dewi Pws.

Rhys Williams, Headteacher at Ysgol Cymerau, Pwllheli added, “It is a privilege and honour to launch the song at our school this week. We have been encouraging all of our pupils to learn the words and we are looking forward to attending the Parêd on the last Saturday of the half term school holidays. The aims of the Parêd and the aims and objectives of Siarter Iaith Gwynedd coincide with one another.” The theme for this year’s parade will be red, white and green. Anni Llŷn, Wales’ Children’s Poet and her husband Tudur Phillips, who are familiar faces on S4C, will present Oscars “Gwobrau Sêr Dewi Sant” for the best costumes on the day.

Children who will participate in the parade will receive stickers and balloons.

Also, people can bring a red dragon umbrella and children can bring percussion instru- ments with them and plenty of red dragon banners.

At this year’s parade there will be horses and carts, penny-farthing bikes, tractors, Band Trefor, Band Chwythbrennau Pwllheli, Band Cambria, Mr Urdd and much more.

There will be a shop window competition in Pwllheli on the theme: red, white and green. Windows to be ready by 24/02/17.

Pwllheli Library will be holding a face painting session from 10am on the day of the parade.

Also, Neuadd Dwyfor will show the Wales v Scotland rugby game live in hi-definition at 2:25pm on a large screen for £2 each. Penlan Fawr will also show the rugby game live, and “Bo Dim” band will perform there live on Saturday night at 8:30pm onwards. ● Facebook: ParêdDewiSantPwllheliSant / Twitter: @ PwllheliGwynedd / dewisantpwllheli@yahoo.co.uk
