‘Dangerous’ child porn addict had kids’ underwear hidden in bed

-

A STUDENT found with hundreds of indecent photographs and movies of children on his computers and youngsters’ underwear in his bed was warned by a judge he faces “a very substantial” jail term.

A jury of eight women and four men at Caernarfon Crown Court took just 90 minutes to find Gwynedd man Pryderi Tomos, 29, of no fixed abode, guilty of 11 charges, mainly of downloading indecent images of children, after he had pleaded guilty to four other counts.

Some of the images were of Category A – the most serious.

David Mainstone, prosecuting, told Caernarfon Crown Court that police looking for indecent images had forced their way into Tomos’ former home at Trefeilian, Waun- fawr on May 15, 2015.

Officers seized four laptops and two computer towers.

They also found children’s underwear under a sheet on his bed, in a drawer underneath and in a wardrobe.

Forensics experts discovered 331 indecent photographs and 188 indecent movies, all of children engaged in sexual behaviour.

Mr Mainstone said Tomos, who was studying maths and physics at the Open University, had “an unhealthy sexual interest in children”.

In 2007 he had been handed a 12-month youth detention sentence after he admitted possessing indecent images of children and distributing them via the internet.

Mr Mainstone said: “He is so addicted to this material he had to commit further offences while wait- ing trial.”

He said Tomos had bought six computers in seven years and had “tried to cover his tracks by destroying them.”

Addressing the court after the jury’s verdict at the end of a two-day trial, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke said: “The defendant’s dangerousness needs to be addressed.”

The judge asked for both a presentence report and a probation report, and said she would adjourn her sentencing until March 7.

Addressing Tomos, she said: “The fact that I am adjourning is no indication of the outcome of this case.

“In my view, the inevitable outcome will be one of a term of imprisonment and possibly a very substantial one.”

The judge added: “You will be remanded in custody until that date.”
