Canaries target cup vengeance over Lilywhites

CAERNARFON Town are sure to be fired up for one of the biggest games in their recent history when they host Rhyl in the fourth round of the Welsh Cup this Saturday (5.15pm kick-off).

The match is being shown live on S4C and Huws Gray Alliance champions Caernarfon will be out for revenge having lost 5-1 at home to the Lilywhites in the Nathaniel MG Cup earlier this season.

The Canaries have boosted their squad in the past week with the signing of former Coventry City, Huddersfield Town and Wrexham midfielder Lee Fowler, while veteran striker Carl Owen has returned to The Oval.

Last weekend saw the Cofis lose further ground in the HGA title race when they were held 1-1 at Penrhyncoch.

Prestatyn now enjoy a 13-point lead at the summit over Iwan Williams’ side.

Penrhyn stopper Leigh Jenkins produced a great diving save to deny Jay Gibbs before Jon Evans put the hosts in front after 33 minutes with a clinical finish.

Just before the break, Jenkins tipped a Jamie Breese effort onto the woodwork.

Early in the second half Gibbs tested Jenkins with a free kick which he failed to hold on to, but made amends by grasping Breese’s header from the rebound.

Town finally got back on level terms a minute past the hour mark when Kevin Lloyd did well to get his head to a Nathan Craig delivery and the ball flew past Jenkins on its way to the top left-hand corner. Lloyd went close to a winner for the visitors, while Evans did likewise for the Roosters.

Caernarfon Town Reserves beat Colwyn Bay 4-1 in the Welsh Alliance Reserves Division, avenging a loss by the same score the previous weekend.
