Pupils at Ysgol Pont y Gof in Pwllheli posted a picture of a hand-written note as an exercise to show just how quickly and how far an image can circulate on the internet.

The post on the school’s Facebook page asked people who saw the image to ‘like’ it and then share it. Users were asked comment on the post with their location.

Ilan Williams, the teacher behind the school’s viral post, said: “The learning objective was to predict how far information will travel when shared online.

“The results will become a part of our cross-curricular activities through the week, including writing an internet safety blog, geography lessons and numeracy work.

“The pupils were astonished to find the results after just 17 hours with nearly 150,000 post views, over 600 likes and over 1500 comments and are looking forward to see how far it will travel.”
